The migration toward CesiumJS as a replacement of the dying Google Earth plugin is almost complete. Except for some minor tweaks (smoke effects, clouds), I consider the migration to be successful. The application seems to be stable enough and performance is satisfying.

I just upgraded Cesium to version 1.18 which claims a memory usage gain in Chrome. I also tweaked caching in order to prevent the constant reloading of texture tiles when quickly changing camera direction.

Finally, GEFS is now featured on Cesium's official demo page http://cesiumjs.org/demos.html

With the end of the Google Earth plugin and no sign from Google to open up their new WebGL renderer, GEFS was doomed.

CesiumJS was considered the best alternative and after some testing became a viable replacement.

Cesium is backed by an active community and has a bright future.

GEFS was quickly migrated in order to beat the end of the plugin, so some things may still have to be improved. Details on the migration to be found here.

I would be glad if you could report bugs and problems in a constructive manner on the bug report forum

I will keep working on finalizing the migration and hopefully keeping on improving GEFS.

Sorry for the late announcement, most of you may already know about the new GEFS version:

• Gliders: Paraglider, Ultralight Goat Airchair and Jantar szd-48-3
• Improvement on dynamic wind lift (ridge soaring) and introduction of thermals
• New sound engine and effects (tyres, wind, Doppler effect)
• Added a public forum to the website for general discussion

I just published a maintenance release (0.8.1). Nothing fancy but a few bugs ironed out:

- Fixed the wind "always on" bug
- Reverted prop wash (was buggy)
- Fixed some aircraft flight characteristics (DC3, Heli) to restore stability.
- Fixed keyboard focus problem on Chrome
- Updated flight model in general
- Trying out a new sound engine
- And a few others things...

As I also updated some javascript libraries, you will be prompted that your preferences are reset (I am sorry, I had no other way)

"GE Flight Simulator" become "GEFS Online". The new address is http://www.gefs-online.com

I had to make this change as my domain name was apparently conflicting with "General Electric" interests. If you ever published some material including GEFS link, I would be glad if you could help me maintaining my search engine ranking by updating blog posts, news, etc... with the new URL.

Now for the good news, the name change comes with a new version and plenty of new features:

- Dynamic suspension on all aircraft
- Runway lighting at night
- Concorde, Cessna 152 and Zlin 50
- Aircraft lights
- An aircraft carrier you can take-off from and land onto.
- Reworked flight models - prop wash
- Reworked multiplayer
- Mach indicator
- Flight Path utility in map (thanks to Gustav)
- Gear, flaps, brakes and spoiler indicators
- Smoke effects on touch down
- Multimonitor support (experimental)
- Performance and stability improvements (hopefully)
- Many other little things you probably will not notice but I worked very hard on ;)

I just released a minor update, mostly to fix some bugs but also to push some new features:

- Reverse: the A380 and MD11 are now equipped  with thrust reversal. Keep pressing '-' or 'PageDown' to engage reverse. Hit '0' to reset thrust to neutral.

- Stall alarm: a screen overlay will warn you when you enter stall on every aircraft

- Dynamic air density: lift, drag and engine performance are degraded with increasing altitude. Maximum airspeed will increase as air density decreases. Service ceiling, cruise speed at altitude and rate of climb should respect aircraft specifications but has to be tested more extensively.

- All four runways are used as default starting point so to spread traffic a bit. (runways are randomly picked for the first visit on GEFS)

- Aircraft model packages are optimized to load faster.

- Su35 flight model has been revised to be a bit more gentle and forgiving.

- A380 3D model has been improved.
